2. Please do not fax your paper.

3. All papers must be written in good English.

4. Papers should not exceed 15 single-spaced pages, including Figures, Tables and References.

5. MS Word must be used with Times New Roman, 12-point font size.

6. For standard A4 (210 x 297 mm) size paper, the left margin should be 40 mm and the left, top and bottom margins should be 25 mm. The text should be typed on one side of the paper only.

7. Do not number the pages. This will be done sequentially in the published Proceedings

8. Headings: Major headings, e.g., INTRODUCTION, METHODS, RESULTS, etc. should be printed in all capital letters, bold and centred on the page. Sub-headings should be printed with only the first letter capitalized, bold, underlined, and flush with the left margin. Third level headings should be indented as with a paragraph, the first letter capitalized, bold, underlined, and run into the text using a double hyphen or a dash to separate the heading from the text.

9. General Style Guidelines:
- Consistently use automatic word wrap (soft returns) for sentences within a paragraph, and the enter or return key (hard return) at the end of a paragraph
- Except for paragraphs, do not use tabs in the text (i.e., do not indent blocks of text)
- Use the numeral 1, not the lower case “ell” for the number one
- Use the numeral 0, not the capital “oh” for zero
- Use consistent spacing throughout the document
- Use the word processor’s automatic footnote capability

10. Order of Manuscript Elements:
First page – essential information: The first page of the manuscript is reserved for the title, author(s) name(s), synopsis, and keywords. Please center the paper title and authors’ names at the top of the page. Leave three lines blank, print the word “Synopsis” followed by a colon at the left margin, and then insert the synopsis. The synopsis should be 200 - 400 words single-spaced, and should contain the essential results and conclusions. Print the word “Keywords” followed by a colon at the left margin at the bottom of the page, then insert a minimum of three keywords (in alphabetical order).

11. Second Page – biographical information and beginning of paper:
Begin with a brief biographical sketch of each author, in order. Please limit each biography to five lines maximum and include one blank line between each listing. The text of the final manuscript should start with a double space below the biographies. Single-space all text with a double space between paragraphs. Fill each page before continuing to the next.

12. References:
References should be indicated in the text “numerically” as they appear in the text. Do not use “Author Name and Year” style. Each full reference should be listed in a reference section at the end of the paper. Each reference in the list should be single spaced, with a double space between each reference.

13. Tables:
Tables are grouped together, in sequential order, following the references. Please try to fit several on each page (without overcrowding). Wide tables may be placed on the page in landscape format. All tables should be numbered and have headings.

14. Figures:
Figures are grouped together, in sequential order, following the tables. As with tables, please try to fit several on each page (without overcrowding). All figures should be numbered, with captions printed directly below the appropriate figures. Photos are Figures. All photos will print in black and white, and the resolution should be 300 dpi or higher for optimum print quality.

15. Please have consistent captions for Tables and Figures.
Include the Table or Figure number followed by a double hyphen or a dash and the caption information. For example: Fig. 1 – Crack patterns for S1 and S2.

16. Use SI units with km, m and mm used. Also use MPa for concrete strength.

17. Use “w/c” not “w/c ratio”, “freezing and thawing” not “freeze-thaw”, “Fig.” not “Figures”, “Figs. 1, 2” not “Fig. 1, 2”, “Data are” not “Data is”, “mixture” not “mix”, “mixture proportions” not “mix design”, “portland cement” not “Portland cement”, “fly ash” not “PFA”, “normal portland cement” not “OPC”.

18. Type titles of tables at the top of the tables.

19. Type titles of figures and at the bottom of the figures.

20. For further instructions, consult ACI web site:
