The
workshop will be organized into technical sessions that
will be defined by the following six main themes:
•
Theme 1 - Slab Design Practices: thickness design based
on consideration of both vehicles and environmental loads;
joint design; steel design for mesh- and continuous-reinforced
slabs; fracture and fatigue issues for design improvement.
• Theme 2 - Materials Specifications and Controls:
concrete mixtures for achieving high early strength and
reduced shrinkage; avoiding alkali-aggregate reactions;
use of recycled concrete aggregate in new concrete mixes.
• Theme 3 - Construction Issues: modern equipment
for placing concrete; placement and consolidation issues
for reinforced concrete; quality control for placing dowel
bars; fast-track concrete paving practices; best practices
for curing; best practices for cutting and forming joints;
up-to-date technological controls.
• Theme 4 - Pavement Management: development and application
of performance models; pavement distress evaluation for
concrete slabs; maintenance tasks, including resealing and
recovering superficial texture; slab reconstruction; restoration
of aged concrete roads; concrete overlays; experiences with
innovative research and management of concrete road networks.
• Theme 5 - Structural Analysis: new challenges and
tools for 2-D and 3-D numerical analysis; innovative application
of numerical models for concrete slab design; obtaining
structural data from non-destructive field tests.
• Theme 6 - Urban and Architectural Applications:
pedestrian ways; texture and colours; thin concrete slab
applications and paving techniques.
The
preliminary workshop program includes 2 parallel tracks
with concurrent sessions to accommodate up to 40 oral presentations.
As many as 20 papers will be presented in a special poster
session.
